The most recent body of work by American photographer Wendy Paton combines bold abstraction and a centuries’ old photographic medium; the Photogram, also known as camera-less photography.
In the series Photograms l Literary the artist uses a visual language that metamorphose a literal and literary object, the book, into an interpretation of abstraction.
Influenced by the iconic works of Man Ray and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, photographer Wendy Paton makes a vivid statement in her series Photograms Literary, visually and figuratively, of the artistic photographic process and the subject matter she has chosen, the written word (literature) and how the two are presented today in our predominantly digital culture.
Spanning minimalist steel sculpture, Neo Geo abstraction, evocative landscapes, experimental still life, and digitally manipulated photographic works on industrial materials, Mélange sets each style in sharp relief. Rather than blending, the exhibition invites viewers to engage with the tension, humor, and dialogue that arise when divergent artistic languages collide.
