ANNE VALVERDE

Anne Valverde photo bw.jpg

"The presence of letters in pictorial space has always been a marker of modernity, a common thread of the avant-garde, and Anne Valverde's invitations to photographic dreams are part of this tradition, which extends from Dada collages to the paintings of Ed Rucha. Located at the intersection of pictorial space, mental space, and language space, her works draw their beauty and power from the uncertainty of what we contemplate with our eyes wide closed."

-Daniel Wust, philosopher and art critic

BIOGRAPHY

BIOGRAPHY

Anne Valverde is a photographer born in 1968, who lives and works in Paris. She became known to the general public in 2008 with CITIES ICONS, a series of photographs of iconic monuments in major cities such as Paris, New York, Hong Kong, London, Dubai, and more.

Since 2015, she has been working on a neon installation that she photographs in different countries: the DREAM ART PROJECT. Through neon, she combines two passions: light and calligraphy. A writing of light on deserted landscapes allows her to explicitly convey a message: what this place inspires in her or an association of ideas related to this contemplation. Certain themes are recurring: an amused look at the omnipresence of social media, hyper-connectivity, and office language. A contemplation that puts the evolution of society into perspective. The insertion of neon lights into his photographs allows him to return to the very essence of the word photography, which in Greek means "to write with light" ('photo': light, 'graphein': to write).

She regularly exhibits at art fairs abroad as well as in galleries in Europe and the United States.
