PIERRE DELCOURT

"Painting and drawing constitute a privileged means for experiencing the tangible world, for being able to "see." My pictorial approach finds its origins in the ever-renewed need to experience this particular presence in the world. I most often use a palette of ochres, earths, and ultramarine blues, declined in a range of restrained tones, always striving to preserve a living and luminous material. It seems to me that it is the slow vibration of these colored grays that can best translate the universe of sensations and emotions that I have approached and that I seek to render on canvas. Carried by a movement that oscillates between intention and detachment, the painting is developed in layers: coverings, erasures, impulses, and renunciations gradually construct a singular and sensitive space where each person can rediscover a part of themselves. An intimate resonance that is both distant and familiar, each of these paintings bears witness to a moment of presence in the world."
BIOGRAPHY
Pierre Delcourt (b. 1956) is a French Postwar & Contemporary artist who resides and creates primarily in Brittany, notably in the coastal community of Plouguiel. He also exhibits regularly in Paris, bridging his regional roots with the broader French art scene. Delcourt explores abstraction through a delicate interplay of spontaneity and structure. While his works often suggest improvisation and fluidity, they reveal an underlying order that reflects a quiet, architectural precision. In his recent work, Delcourt favors a restrained palette of blues, whites, and greys, creating visual harmonies that are both subtle and evocative.
