ABOUT
We are pleased to present in Scottsdale Art Week, with a special presentation of François Weil, a curated selection of significant sculptural works in a dedicated space.
We will feature one of his monumental stone sculptures like 939, the second largest currently available in the United States. Weil’s practice is distinguished by his use of raw, unpolished stones extracted directly from quarries. Carefully selected for their intrinsic character, these natural blocks are transformed while preserving their essential integrity. The works may be understood as readymades in stone, where the artist’s intervention reveals rather than reshapes the material’s inherent presence.
Though monumental and seemingly immovable, Weil’s sculptures are conceived to be set gently into motion with a simple push. This unexpected mobility creates a compelling tension between mass and movement. By juxtaposing the rough solidity of the “trunk” with the delicacy and implied lightness of the foliage, his works underscore both the strength and vitality of nature.
