ABOUT

Nicolas Auvray Gallery is pleased to present Idyll by Ayline Olukman, whose practice explores the intersections of memory, the body, and the natural world. Olukman’s art is a journey of self-discovery, rooted in the concept of displacement as a universal human experience. Her work reflects on nostalgia, the transient nature of time, and the ways in which we inhabit and perceive space.

Central to Olukman’s work is the notion of the skin as both a personal and universal geography. In her images—described as inner/outer landscapes—human and natural forms converge, negotiating their similarities and differences. Through this lens, Olukman invites viewers to enter a realm where conventional boundaries dissolve, and perception becomes a dynamic exchange between the internal and external worlds.

“For me, these inner/outer landscapes are the place where body and nature meet, negotiate their differences and similarities. I seek to remain in touch with the elements—the nature or the road—without being constrained by them. The more I explored myself, the more I realized I was part of a whole. The gaze becomes a dialogue, a reflection, a hand extended to the viewer,” Olukman explains.

Displacement and the non-place are recurring motifs in her practice. Olukman examines the process of creation itself, seeking meaning in memory, the body, and the world around her. The limit of the skin serves as a connective thread, blurring the notions of scale and reality while emphasizing the intimate and universal qualities of human experience.

Through her work, Olukman engages viewers in a profound reflection on connection, perception, and the shared landscapes of memory and existence.
