ABOUT
Nicolas Auvray Gallery is delighted to announce its debut at Art Miami 2024, featuring a dynamic presentation of contemporary international artists. Four painters and two sculptors will share the exhibition space, inviting visitors to explore six distinct artistic worlds, each engaging with contemporary themes that resonate with today’s realities.
The exhibition features works by painters Clément Denis, Alfredo Romero, Stanley Casselman, KACE (Naeem Khan + Stanley Casselman), Chen Yi Ching, and sculptors François Weil and Karl Lagasse, whose works interweave references to ancient and modern mythologies, collective memory, and the intangible aspects of existence.
Alfredo Romero, presented for the first time with Nicolas Auvray Gallery, centers his practice on recovering architectural fragments from urban sites across Mexico. Using the strappo technique, traditionally employed in mural and archaeological conservation, he carefully lifts sections of walls and painted surfaces from homes, commercial spaces, and public buildings facing transformation or erasure. These fragments retain layers of pigment, weathering, signage, and human presence, preserving the traces of everyday life embedded within the city.
Making his United States debut, François Weil is celebrated for his gravity-defying, rotating stone sculptures. Working with materials such as Belgian marble, granite, and Volvic stone, Weil employs a unique process of cutting and assembling rather than traditional carving. His monumental sculptures are set into motion with a simple push, creating a dynamic interplay between mass and movement. This kinetic approach evokes imaginary archaeology and mineral exploration, while serving as a metaphor for the continuity of history and the cyclical rhythms of time. Weil’s work has earned international acclaim for its originality and expressive resonance.
