ABOUT
Nicolas Auvray Gallery is pleased to present at the Fall NYC Affordable Art Fair, with a special live performance by Carlos Peñalver, a London-based artist and architect. Known for his bold black-and-white line drawings, Peñalver’s work spans intricate works on paper, expansive murals, digital animations, and live performance.
Peñalver’s signature process—drawing continuously from memory in a single stroke—blends architecture, performance, and fine art into compositions that are at once spontaneous and highly structured. His architectural training in Alicante, Ljubljana, and Shanghai informs his remarkable sense of spatial relationships and structural balance, brought to life in fluid, continuous linework.
Over the past two years, Peñalver has gained acclaim for his large-scale murals for institutions including the London School of Economics, Montcalm East Hotel, and Citypoint. His practice also extends to digital art and animation, creating dynamic experiences that engage audiences directly with his creative process.
On his practice, Peñalver explains, “My drawings are my space to make mistakes. To experiment. Big drawings made of many smaller ideas where all things I think of take place. All forms. Unconstrained. The characters. Desires… Like book margin annotations. Secrets within drawings. Memories.”
During the fair, visitors will witness Peñalver bring his drawings to life in real time, exploring memory, structure, and imagination in a continuous performance that transforms the exhibition space.
