CHRIS FALLOWS
b. 1972, South Africa

"My aim is to profoundly move my audience, forging an emotional connection with my subject and awakening a primal longing to reconnect with the natural world, our shared origin across all species. I work in an artistic style that is simple and uncluttered, seeking to empower rather than overwhelm my subjects. To achieve this, careful consideration is given to background, mood, and overall composition. All my subjects are completely wild, and as such, mutual respect and quiet tolerance are essential when creating imagery in the unprotected close quarters I often find myself in. Earning this privilege demands substantial time in the field. My overriding objective is to bring these elements together in a fine artwork that does justice to the natural world's most iconic subjects, beings I am deeply privileged to encounter before my lens. "
BIOGRAPHY
Chris Fallows is a South African fine art wildlife photographer, conservationist, and Canon Ambassador whose work spans more than three decades in some of the world’s most remote marine and terrestrial environments. Best known for discovering and documenting the breaching great white sharks of South Africa in 1996, Chris created many of the most iconic wildlife images of the modern era — moments that can no longer be recreated following the dramatic decline of these sharks in the region.
Working across Ocean, Air, and Earth, his photography combines intimacy, rarity, and narrative, shaped by decades spent earning close access to wild subjects in the field. His work moves beyond traditional wildlife photography into a broader conversation around loss, coexistence, and conservation.
Chris’s photography has been exhibited internationally, including at the Saatchi Gallery, Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, Galleria Forêt in Seoul, and as a major solo installation at Dubai International Airport. His work and field expertise have featured in over 100 documentaries and major media platforms including the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery Channel’s Air Jaws, CNN, and most recently 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper.
Produced as highly limited editions, Chris’s works are increasingly sought after not only for their visual impact, but for the unrepeatable nature of the moments they document. Proceeds from sales directly support wildlife conservation initiatives and the acquisition and rehabilitation of wilderness land in Southern Africa.
